Ok just finished book one and two of Kristen Ashley’s series, The Three. It’s taken me forever to finally write my review because we’re in the middle of moving this week and next. So here it finally is!!
The first book, Until The Sun Falls From The Sky, was a tough read for me. I almost quit reading it but about half way through it got pretty awesome. The beginning for me was pretty dark and rides the border of abuse too much for my taste. However, like I said it gets much much better about the middle of the book and the plot that leads us to the series story as a whole is fantastic.
Leah Buchanan comes from a long line of concubines that serve a secret society of vampires. Her line is the highest sought and have pristine reputation within the vampire community. Lucian, a very powerful vampire has been waiting for Leah since he marked her as his twenty years ago. Leah has no idea who Lucian is and after her first time being in the presence of vampires, she wants absolutely nothing to do with any of them.
Lucian is controlling, literally, and illegally uses mind-control to force Leah to sign the contract that allows him the use of her body for as long as he wants. This, along with many other things Lucian does, is too close to what abused women deal with that it was hard for me to read. The feeling of your body betraying your will is something no one wants to go through but unfortunately Lucian thinks nothing of this and is a cruel bastard to Leah the first half of the book.
Then, Leah discovers everything that Lucian has risked for her to make her his and Lucian realizes that he loves Leah. This brings us to the best half of the book and we learn about The Prophesies. Let me just say, this led me to reading the second book for sure and the second book is definitely a great page-turner!
The Second book, With Everything I Am, is a lot less dark and more interesting than the first. Callum is the king of werewolves and has been waiting for his mate and future queen his whole life. He’s running from hunters when he comes across a young girl, Sonia, out in the middle of the woods in the snowy winter night. He is injured and she brings him home to fix up “her puppy” and get him warm. He soon discovers that she is to be his mate so he continues to wait for her until she’s an adult.
Sonia has difficulties with this at first(who wouldn’t, right?) and she thinks he’s a crazy person in an elaborate plot to scam her for the millions of money her dead parents left her. They both soon find out that they are the second mates couple of The Three prophesies and face many challenges together.
The Three series is definitely one to read if you’re looking for a new paranormal romance read. I’m off to read the third and final book! 😉
Until The Sun Falls From The Sky(Book 1)-
Leah Buchanan’s family has been in service to vampires for five centuries. Even so, Leah wants nothing to do with her family’s legacy. But when she’s summoned to her Selection by the Vampire Dominion, under familial pressure, she has no choice but to go.
Lucien has been living under the strict edicts of the Vampire Dominion for centuries but he’s tired of these ancient laws stripping away everything that is the essence of the vampire.
So he’s taking it back.
And this is because Lucien has been watching and waiting for decades for Leah to become available for a Selection and he will not be limited with what he can do with her. He will have her, all of her.
Therefore, Lucien is going to tame Leah, even if he gets hunted and killed for doing it.
What neither Leah nor Lucien expects is the strong bond that will form between them, connecting them on unprecedented levels for mortals or immortals. And what will grow between them means they will challenge their ways of life and their union will begin The Prophesies which makes them one of three couples who will save humanity… or die in the effort.
With Everything I Am(Book 2)-
One night, Callum is driven into the woods by instinct, an instinct to protect. In the form of wolf, he meets a young human child who he’s instantly drawn to in a fierce way he doesn’t quite understand. Sonia Arlington has lived a lonely life. She has certain abilities that make her strange and she has a rare disease that, if untreated, could kill her. Her father makes her vow she’ll never let others discover her abilities. This forces Sonia to stay distant, always guarding against exposure. Intelligence leaks that Sonia is Callum’s human mate. He is now King of the Werewolves and has war on his hands. He’s forced to claim his mate and integrate Sonia into a world that’s strange and frightening. As Sonia attempts to adjust, Callum attempts to cope with the knowledge that his mate is mortal. He’ll have her beauty and gentleness only the length of a mortal life, making their union unbearably bitter even as Sonia makes it unbelievably sweet.
