Review:

Jeez, why did I wait so long to read this amazing series? It’s been several days since I finished, and my mind still seems stuck in the magic of Legend. I enjoyed everything about this book. The characters are splendidly written and the world building is captivating.

Welcome, welcome to Caraval! The grandest show on land or by sea. Inside you’ll experience more wonders than most people see in a lifetime. You can sip magic from a cup and buy dreams in a bottle. But before you fully enter into our world, you must remember it’s all a game.”— Caraval, Stephanie Garber

Scarlet has been warned to not get too swept away, after all it’s just a game. However, I actually found myself being swept away and waiting on the edge of my seat for what will happen next. Caraval has an Alice in Wonderland meets The Hunger Games vibe, but even that description doesn’t really do it justice.

What happens beyond this gate may frighten or excite you, but don’t let any of it trick you. We will try to convince you it’s real, but all of it is a performance. A world built of make-believe. So while we want you to get swept away, be careful of being swept too far away. Dreams that come true can be beautiful, but they can also turn into nightmares when people won’t wake up.”— Caraval, Stephanie Garber

Caraval set my expectations high for Legendary, and I was nervous that it couldn’t possibly meet them. It didn’t meet them, not even close. Legendary set my expectations on fire and stomped on them. It was absolutely amazing! I hated Tella in Caraval. I thought she was selfish and annoying. So then comes Legendary where she’s the main character? Then something strange and exhilarating happened. I actually started to like her. Then I started to love her.

So,’ she said cautiously, ‘is all this your way of telling me you’re the villain?’ His chuckle was dark. ‘I’m definitely not the hero.’ ‘I already knew that,’ Tella said. ‘It’s my story, so clearly I’m the hero.”— Legendary, Stephanie Garber

Then there’s Dante. Talk about swoon-worthy! I’m so happy with how Legendary left off, and I’m beyond ready for Finale to be released. I’m telling you, if you haven’t picked up this series yet, you’re seriously missing out and need to remedy that pronto! Read Caraval and be prepared to be swept away.

Every good story needs a villain. But the best villains are the ones you secretly like.”— Legendary, Stephanie Garber

Book Blurb for Caraval:

Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But she nevertheless becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic with the other players in the game. And whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, a dangerous domino effect of consequences is set off, and her sister disappears forever.

Welcome, welcome to Caraval . . . beware of getting swept too far away.
